Is there any virtual symbian device?
« on: May 08, 2013, 01:55:13 pm »
Hello Guis,

I'm new to symbian development. Hopefully registered to this forum for getting help.

You may think this is totally fool but it is a great idea for symbian developers.
I have searched for virtual symbian device but nothing found. Is there any virtual symbian mobile to use that on my computer? For example, if I make a custom Windows or linux, I can test that on VirtualBox. That is a virtual computer. I want to test my own customized symbian firmware. Is the any way to make a virtual symbian environment to do that?

In virtualBox, i can make custom CPU, RAM, Graphics etc. If there anything like that where I can make a virtual nokia n8, n9, 500 or 701 mobile. Where I have total control of mobile feature and I can Flush that with my custom firmware.
***Nokia Remote Device Access is not what I'm looking for.

Thanks In advance.

you can test some mods in Symbian Emulator, e.g. SMS skins, .mif mods, maybe some cenrep settings.

Thanks in advance.

Get the SDK here :
http://www.developer.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/ec866fab-4b76-49f6-b5a5-af0631419e9c/S60_All_in_One_SDKs.html

As @huellif said only some mods can be used. And no hardware config can't be changed.

I cannot edit .mif files. Please suggest me an editor or something with i can edit mif files.

Please also help me locating the drivers. I can't find the location of .ldd and the .pdd files on the unpacked firmware.

for .mif files use SISContents, to copy drivers from Z:\ or create a ROM Dump.

check rofs1\resource\apps\splashscreen.mif

Thanks huellif for your reply.

Sorry for asking old question again and again.

I've unpacked the .mif file successfully. But now i've got .nvg files. Cannot find anything from google. Can anyone help me with .nvg format?

Also i'm editing nokia 500 firmware. I've got 19 entries of .nvg files from splashscreen.mif. When I put my own files do I have to keep exact 19 .nvg files? or I can put more or less than that?

Thanks in advance.

you can view only .nvg files (with latest sisconents).

Don't add new entries, remove the old instead.
