[Request] Remove power save restrictions
« on: December 15, 2013, 04:03:32 pm »
Hi,
I've just downloaded a mod which allow to toggle the torch while in power save mode. But what about all other restrictions?

Is it possible to have some mods to remove all other power save restrictions like:
 - Gsm/3G mode (and also disable the auto-switch to 3G while activating power save)
 - Display brightness and timeout (and remember the settings used, instead of set to 0% and 5 seconds respectively)
 - Profile settings

You can use the 3G toggle widget to turn the 3G connection back on in power saver mode.

why do you want power saver if you disable all this things?
Because power save is not a simple "set those values low".
I've tested the battery life with my nokia c7:
1) With power save enabled
2) With power save disabled, but same settings as power save mode

The battery life is much shorter in the second test, compared to the first one (~2.5 days Vs ~4 days).
So, power save do something else other than set those values low.
And so, changing back those values won't remove all benefits from power save mode.

Anyway, those values can be set to something lower than the normal mode, but not so low as the default power save mode, because IMHO they are too low.
Also I get bored every time it says "You can't change this in power save mode", especially with settings like the theme effects, which are not touched by the power save mode, but it won't let you toggle them for some unknown reason, and I have to disable the power save, toggle the theme effects, and re-enable the power save.

i am pretty certain this is the setting that gets changed which is responsible for most of the battery saving.

Add: My personal experience has been using the GSM network instead of HSPA gives a significantly longer battery life.

Here is all the powersaver mode info available in the firmware, mate. This is all the xml for the mode and also the unpacked psmserver.exe so you can see what the app itself is doing.

Timeout is also in 10200C8C, mate: 0x6

this values are for usual mode, power saver is somewhere else.

Some restrictions are in ROFS1:\private\10282bc4\rules\, some in \10202be9\

power saving is a "new" feature from S^3 and most known mods and cenrep infos are from s60v3/5. Maybe S^3 source are usefull.

v3's power save is 3G>2G and lights at 0% w/ time-out at 5sec
i knew that S^3 added bluetooth, vibration and alarm but did not know what else had been added. Now i do :)
