c7 belle refresh, settings usb - usa phone as modem?

hi, sorry for my english, im italian.
in c7 belle refresh :settings, connectivity, usb,  "use phone as modem", how to use this function?
the manual says is sometink about wifi tethering, but when activated ,windows system (tried winxp and win7) recognise the new hw found as USB CDROM (?) and no wifi router connection or any other kind of modem hw or connection is created by the phone.
So, its a useless function or what? (maybe for different so like linux or apple)?
I use very easy way to tether my nokia with ovi suite usb or bt driver or joikuspot, so its not really a problem, maybe more a technical curiosity, but thanks for your answer.
somebody from this forum use it and how?

when u set the usb settings as use phone as modem - the phone turns as a internet modem which will help u access internet on your pc through the service provider (sim card) internet enabled in your mobile phone. And as soon as you set it , the windows start preparing the device for net connection automatically. Its one of the normal functions of mobile nowadays , it doesnt even require a nokia suite for it :)

note:- i dont know about mac or linux but works well on windows

really thank you for your answer.
My only curiosity is, why my winxp (and win7), when i activate the use modem function,  recognise the new hardware found "Usb cdrom" and not any kind of modem?
Could be an error caused by a c7 deep reset i did it once after i upgraded to belle refresh, so i need to install some resource or dll cause the format erased it?

usb cdrom?? Well sorry i dont know anything much from now. But that should not happen. May the admins and moderators know the answer.

when i saw "usb cdrom", i was sure its somethink strange or wrong.
not really a problem (cause using ovi i have no problem), but..... why it happens is just a techical curiosity i would like to resolve...
