What gives, Nokia?
« on: November 10, 2013, 12:53:09 am »
As i am collecting many necessary and/or relevant firmwares in the anticipation of their disappearance from availability very soon, i am seeing that firmware updates for all of my NAM SIM-free devices that Nokia promised on their website but never made it through in SW update OTA or Nokia Suite were indeed available all along!
The E72-2 did in fact have a v91.003 available.
The E6 did get Belle Refresh v111.140.0058 (but i don't want it, anyway :P).
The N8 does have an update available to 111.040.1511!
What was Nokia thinking? Were they deliberately self-sabotaging? To what end?

Oh they don't seem to like announcing updates for product codes or even making them properly available, it turns out my 808 does have the latest 1508 firmware on Navifirm, but the phone still shows 1506 :/

i contacted Nokia Care about this repeatedly (as did many other American customers) and received convoluted and inconsistent replies each time.
i do not understand why Nokia insisted on shooting itself in the foot  ???
Maybe the Microsoft merger/assimilation has been in the works for waaaaaay longer than anyone realised. i was suspicious from the late 2000's when Microsoft software started appearing in the firmware (Communicator).

Nokia care just give copy paste replies, bit like developer support actually, we have caught them out a few times, not even bothering to edit the template to add their name ::)

Ahh, Nokia doesn't Care, as it has been renamed on Nokia "Support" Discussions.
Even this is not really support from Nokia; they got the community to do their job for them  ::)

i really doubt i would ever consider buying Nokia again.

I give better replies than Nokia on there half the time, it's ridiculous someone with 9 posts (me)knows more than a Nokia employee.

Lol congrats :D

i can't stand it there. i haven't been active there in ages. The general population of the community are people who bitch at Nokia because they do not know how to use their devices. i'm ok with bitching at Nokia, but not about ignorance on the part of the users.
Yes, you are correct about the moderators, but it isn't entirely on them. Nokia's mods do not appear to know very much about what they are being asked, but the questions are often incomplete or terribly worded and the OP's rarely follow up or help clarify their questions. This is universal, though.

Most of them bitchers don't know how to open the menu and press User Guide -_-

I'm sure no other OS has such an extensive guide on using the OS than Symbian does.

But to be honest I don't think many of the Nokia stuff know what they are on about, I'll bring up dev support again, some of them are truly clueless, while others know what they are talking about and get you sorted in a flash (rare to see these days, it took them nearly 4 days to open my content file up, press edit and press publish again to fix a damn server bug)

You're right on the OP part, lot's of the questions are a bit docile (I'll put my hands up to one myself)

When Belle was first released Stateside for E6, i was on a thread basically calling out all the whiners for not using Guide, not having a clue and not having any business talking trash about the OS. Steve Litchfield was there, too.
i got labeled a troll, when the truth of the matter was that the majority of the users were simply inept.
This is the state of the internet, bro, and a major cause in why i think so few people want to help anymore.
This is what keeps me attached to this forum; that every question i pose here is quickly answered and the reason i am willing to go down with this ship rather than catch another one passing by.

But my hands are black, too.
i have been attempting to revisit all of my posts to update/revise/rewrite wherever i made foolish and/or unsavvy statements or left the thread incomplete (the RP+ question, for example, which i completely forgot).
i have also tried to scrape off the muck i have slung at posts regardless of validity.
i do not want be part of the problem (and continue to be such a hypocrite).

Tbh we get called a troll for anything, even if their statement is stupid, like saying when I shut my eyes I cannot see... random one there

A nice example of some of Nokia's stupidity here http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43965

Not random. Concise and simple.
The post makes me even more frustrated for you devs. My interest in development is purely for pastime and possible shares on the communities (following suit to all my tutors), but i can see how much Nokia jerk around those who made a valid effort to help the Nokia ecosystems and supplement their income as well.
Nokia really did fall off the edge of the world, didn't they? That seems to be the cue that many businesses here in America seem to wish to follow, only very few have stood up and said "What the hell, man?"
i sincerely hope Symbian Store becomes greater than Nokia Store could have been.

They seem to have an almost bad attitude to the devs who try to improve their ecosystem, and encourage shit, like wtf?

There are Apps on Nokia store which are completely useless, loads don't work at all.

If the world was flat Nokia would have being on Pluto by now.

I too hope Symbian Store is successful, gonna be one of a challenge.

Well this forum does house a few of the more prominent devs, but some are surprisingly absent. i am curious if they are just lost to Symbian altogether.
And where did all the theme makers go?
Even Marco seems to be over Symbian now.
The results of piracy and ingratitude?

Piracy was what made about 80% leave, even I contemplated leaving myself, it's a terrible situation to be in :(

You are pretty on the ball with Qt development; couldn't you just develop cross-platform (or individual platform) apps?
Qt seems to be where it's at these days.
