Question 3 is:

What's the difference in Navifirm between the Quality Assurance server and the Nokia Care Suite?

I need to know this so I know which OEM firmware to download back onto my phone.

Question 4:

Also, my original firmware is the Hong Kong firmware which has the FM transmitter disabled.

Can I just go with the Scandanivian Firmware and just go with that if the FM transmitter on it works normally?  English is the only thing I really need.  Asides from FM transmitter issues, is there any need to consider different region firmwares?

Question 5:

My phone is unbranded and unlocked.  Will using the scandanavian firmware relock/brand it?  Will using any of the firmwares 'cripple' my phone again?  Will using certian firmwares disable the quad/quint band capability of the phone?

Question 6:

On another forum someone noted the annoyance of the redlight during recording.  Is there a link where tested modded firmwares are discussed?  I'd prefer that the phone remain as unbuggy as possible.  Should I stay away from modded firmwares?

I've noti

q3 difference is in the name its the server that nokia care centre use and has all the firmware

q4 it may enable it but it being disabled might be according to the law

q5  it shouldn't  brand it

q6   http://sdf.allstarsoftware.co.uk/symbian3-cfw-release-and-download-board/

yes i would recommend using modded firmware .

Well, doing more research again.

Found a link describing all the stock firmware versions.  One thing I've learned, is that nobody in nokia likes 'zeroes'  instead of calling belle 111.030.0609, they just call it 111.30.609.

http://www.developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/Nokia_firmware_change_logs.

Question 7:

I think that I am going to stick with stock firmware for now, unless someone can recommend a good firmware that is easy to flash to from 11.5.

My cell phone region code is 059D159 (Hong Kong) with a disabled FM transmitter.  I'd like to select a regional firmware that allows for it.  And also has english as one of the stock languages.  The less languages the better.  Can anyone recommend a good non North America Firmware?  I'm in Canada, so FM transmitters are not an issue for me...

And also a firmware that allows for a natural path upgrade to 20.7 Anna as per recommended previously in this thread.  For now I'll keep it as 'stock' as possible.  When I get more confident with flashing, maybe I'll find something better.

If I do use a custom firmware, it basically keeps everything stock, except for better functionality.  I'm not a big fan of or require a different 'look'.

If anyone can recommend a Linux-style firmware, that is slim, robust and fast and more functional, I'll listen.

Thanks everybody.

Here's a quick thing I found online about flashing.  Different version that describes the same thing.

One thing I wasn't sure about is having other programs installed/running.

Looks like the best course of action is to remove all other programs, including the Nokia Program.

1.Uninstall Phoenix, JAF, Nokia PC/OVI Suite, Nokia Cable Driver, PC connectivity and Restart computer
2.Install Phoenix 2011
3.Start phoenix (make sure phone is not connected to PC)
4.Make sure NO CONNECTION is set
5.Click File/Open Product/Type Filter=RM-596, select RM-596 and click OK
6.Click Flashing/Firmware update
7.Click on product code and select yours. Then click options and select the needed files (also remove unneeded)
8.Put a tick on Dead Phone Flashing
9.Click Refurbish
10.Connect phone to PC (phone must be switched off), wait 10 seconds, click OK on phoenix's message.
11.If phoenix doesn't start flashing, hold the power button of the phone until flashing starts (10-30 seconds)
12.Ignore any messages like "Phoenix stopped working". Wait until flashing is completed. If you click OK on this message while flashing your phone will get bricked.
13.That's it.

I'm going to install 11.5, then reflash to 14.2

Is there a reason as to why 11.5 is so small in file size compared to 14.2?

11.5 is only a couple of files, and 14.2 is many many files and 1.9gb.

edit:  I selected mark all.  It's better just to download the files that are already check marked right?  Is there any thing I should check or uncheck.

edit, edit.  Better to download the whole files.  Downloading just the few files ends up with a phone with no functionality except as a phone.

14.2 won't auto update to anna.

Should I have updated from 11.5 scandanavian, to 11.12, and would that have done the necessary work to get it to autoupdate to anna?

It auto updated ovi maps and here and now and something else, but not anna.  Still stuck at 14.2

14.2 works fine.  It just takes a couple of software updates for it to go to anna properly.

Of note for some reason, when flashing, make sure operating mode is 'normal'.

Seemes like it switched automatically on me.

Other than that works perfectly.
