Nokia C6-01 Video Recording problem
« on: October 30, 2013, 06:26:39 pm »
I am having trouble shooting Videos with my Nokia C6-01. While recording Videos at 720p the screen freezes at approximately 12~13s for about a second or two and then the frames starts to stutter. When I playback the video the frame is fixed at 13s (sound mutes as well after this).
The problem doesn't occur when I record at VGA resolution, but only for 720p. Plus I have about 8GB space in my memory card and 104mb in phone memory. I don't recall any application installation besides the whatsapp update this week, so I have absolutely no idea what happened all of a sudden (it was fine last Sunday when I shot my last video).
I wish I could upload a video to demonstrate the problem but the file size is huge... :(
Any help??? Flashing my phone is the last thing I want to do now...  :(

Exactly the same problem my N8 has, it just freezes when recording 720p, I think it may be related to memory card speed, or something else reading/writing to the card while it's recording.

Does it do that when you record to the Mass memory too?

The C6-01 doesn't have a Mass Memory, and camera only works with the memory card in. I hardly think its the memory card as well as I hardly remove it and I haven't seen any problem besides this. I mean the camera does record smoothly till 13s then it starts to freeze. You may be right about the reading/writing speed though, it takes ages to save the video.

Ah, silly me I forgot it didn't have Mass memory, Mine only started to do it after it has a few apps on it, background processes running.

What memory card class did you use anyway?Make sure that no other app that use gpu is running as both will compete for gpu memory.

If you are recording in HD, you are best off with a class 10 memory card.
Also, to keep your memory card performing its best you should use this trick to "defrag" it:

1. Insert it into your PC and copy all contents of the card (ctrl+A from the card in explorer - don't drag the card itself) to a fresh directory.
2. Delete the entire contents of the card (but do not format it).
3. Copy your new directory's contents back to your card.

These cards get terribly fragmented over time and eventually get very buggy. This maintenance resolves almost all such problems. The reason for doing it this way is to save time and I/O reads and writes.
It's really hard on the memory to use defrag (stated by SanDisk engineers), so the process given is better for time involved and the longevity of your memory card.

Edit: Added reasoning for method

Surprisingly it worked!!! :D Yes I use a Class10 Transcend microSD card... I actually skipped the deleting part, just copied them just in case, then defragmented it... Restarted the phone, and now flawless video recording...  :)

=o/
Glad it works now, but the reason for doing it the described way is to save 1: Time and 2: I/O reads and writes.
It's actually really bad for the memory to use defrag (i was told this by SanDisk engineers), so the process given is better for time and the longevity of your memory card.
