Hi mate,

what's your email provider?
Did you try to remove your account and re-add a new one?
Did Nokia Mail show any errors or just moved your send emails into drafts?

Regards

Hello Huellif,

what's your email provider?  Verizon

Did you try to remove your account and re-add a new one?  yes I tried

Did Nokia Mail show any errors or just moved your send emails into drafts?  the messages stay in the outbox.  the only error message I got was "unable to open message while sending" this would only appear after I tapped on the mail item.  I believe that this message is normal under the circumstances?

cheers.

Yes that's normal mate.
Could you try to send emails via a Outlook, Yahoo, GMail or another provider to check if your phone/config itself works fine?

Regards

that was a good idea.

I tried yahoo and the mail went through immediately.  I realize now that verizon is using a smtp protocol for outgoing mail and my N8 only has options for pop3/imap.  does nokia have a newer mail app that offers smtp?  I think this may be my problem, lack of smtp support?
cheers
update 2.
verizon has verified that all settings(ports and address) are correct.  they suspect that even though the the settings are shown as correct that the nokia file may be corrupted?  anyway to delete and maybe re-install the mail app? or perhaps delete the settings info and start over? I am getting one error message that seems odd.  I occasionally get a "unable to connect to server" error msg then asking me to connect and sign in with password.  this occurs even though the app has retrieved the mail!

further investigation has revealed that Verizon blocks inquiries from unknown ip addresses.  This is the problem, not the firmwares fault.

problem using both secure and non secure "open" network.

Verizon is(POP3) pushing us into Secured connection using SSL, but the old ports still work.  I am not sure which port settings were giving me the message "unable to connect to server" though I bet it was non SSL.  will have to get back to you on that.
security off ports 110,25  incoming, outgoing
security on SSL 995,465

thanks for checking back..
