Replacement "Gallery" app for latest Belle
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:58:37 pm »

The latest Belle update has crippled the Gallery app.

They have removed the Mark Multiple option, which could be used to email multiple pics.

I say "could" because the app would usually crash if you did that, leaving the images stuck under Drafts.

So I am looking for a decent "picture manager" which has a built-in email sending feature.

Does that exist?

Various firms like RESCO used to make image management apps, even for Symbian, but it looks like development of all those products has died 2-3 years ago (the case for Symbian generally). They should still work, to some degree, but you get weird touch screen support where e.g. you have to press each button twice. That is what I find with e.g. ActiveFile.

(apologies if multiple posted but my original post did not appear)

Update:

I found the free Photobook

works great.

The interface looks a bit rough but it works on the N700/Belle touch screen fine. It does all it says on the tin. Just a couple of observations:

1. The email facility works no better than from the Nokia Gallery app, so that bug is in the Nokia email app itself.

2. The Photobucket upload function, if used to upload to a sub-album, finds only the first album listed, so I created one called aaa_temp and just use that ;)

As with many Symbian apps, the developer's website no longer mentions it and the downloads don't work, but it took me only seconds to find a site with the right version .sis file.

I am very suprised.

There are many "press releases" on the web mentioning that app, as a "free" app.

Also Lonely Cat Games don't mention it at all on their website, nor is it mentioned at all in their support forum. So they obviously don't sell it anymore.

It's the website itself which is the problem, we can't allow any links to sites that have illegal content on them.

OK, fair enough, but 99% of sites carrying info about Symbian have either hacks or hacked software on them.

Ever since developers dropped Symbian like a hot potato c. 2010, including dropping all support, in pursuit of presumed mountains of gold to be had selling 100,000,000 50p apps for Iphones ;) the whole Symbian scene has become a free for all, with loads of sites carrying tips.

Nokia's own support forum is virtually totally useless, their developer forum is totally useless, so the hacker sites is all one has.

I paid for all paid-for apps I run, but sometimes I got my fingers burnt when the developer went bust (or stopped replying to emails) - look up Tektronic Car Pack for example - and the IMEI-locked license could not be transferred when the phone packed up.

Well the hacks are fine personally, but to be honest the main stream developers may have dropped Symbian but not all smaller devs like me have, there is still a lot of money to be made with Symbian OS, yeah sure some Apps like you mention have IMEI locks; there will be a perfectly good reason behind that.

But oh well, life goes on ;)
