Hi,

First thank you very much for existing guys, I think you really are the only ones that can help me. I hope we will be able to interact somehow :-)

I have a 808 PureView, and although I like Nokia maps in many ways, in other ways I am really disappointed.
My problem is that, now, the GPS won't find me. Anymore. With or without data. It's been two weeks already I think.
The problem started shortly after I did a "soft" factory reset: reset application data, but not user data, for all the phone. I did this soft reset because, before that, the GPS could work...only once after each startup. Whether I closed it with the screen button, with the red button or whether I reduced it with the central button, or whether I just locked the cell phone, it was the same result: freeze of Nokia Maps, and although the rest of the system could still work, I had to reboot to get Nokia Maps working. After my soft reset, this "lauch-once" problem disappeared, and for sometime everything was good. But two weeks ago the GPS stopped finding me, and it NEVER found me again.

The big problem is that I don't see Nokia Maps in the list of installed applications, so I can't de-install and re-install it, so that EVERYTHING in Nokia maps would be re-set to zero. And I don't want to do a real hard reset of the whole phone because I don't want to lose all the data and customizing I already did on the rest of the phone!

I am a complete newbie to Symbian, I never developed anything on a mobile platform, and I never even modded or flashed or did anything fancy to a smartphone. I would just like to know here...where to look, and where to start (PC tool, app, something that may provide more inside access to the system? Some underground Nokia utility? script? simple tweak? Something even more simple?), to get my problem fixed for good!

Thank you very much for any help you may provide, it will be greatly appreciated!

In fact it's juste me who's beyond stupidity: Somehow the confidentiality parameter saying "find my position" became set on "no" instead of "yes", although I don't remember to have touched it. Maybe the default parameter was set by some recent update?...

Anyway, sorry for having bothered you. I will come back with only more consistent problems, I promise!

Never insult yourself, mate. Plenty of people out there are going to do that without any regard, so do not do it to yourself.
Good on ya for getting it sorted and thanks for posting the solution. You never know if someone might Google the same issue and find your post to help them solve the problem. i want to add to it just in case to check Settings>Application Settings>Positioning>Positioning Methods on an S^3 phone and  Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning Methods on an S60 phone.
