Windows Registry Tweaks

This thread is devoted to Registry Tweaks and i slowly post tweaks below and you all too post if know any..!

Common things to know before tweaking

  • Windows registry can be edited via following way
Open Run
THen type 'regedit'(w/o quotes)
and registry will be opened and change values according to tweak
  • Refresh in windows represent to refresh the changes made in registry
  • TO activate the change you made in registry right click in windows and refresh

RULES BEFORE POSTING TRICK:-

  • Mention the Os if its an exclusive trick for specific OS
  • DOn't spam the thread
  • If the tweak is a bit tricky then add some pics of imp sections involved in it

How to change default installation directory..

GO TO Registry editor and then

Navigate to the following registry key in the Registry Editor:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion


 Locate the value named “ProgramFilesDir” and change the default value “C:\Program Files” to your new directory path(address).

exit editor and refresh..!












(Note:This is the first tweak and needs pics to understand noobs furthur tweaks will not contain photos elaboration until its needed..!)

How to remove recycle bin from your desktop Tip:

Open Regedit by going to START - RUN and type Regedit and hit enter. Then you should navigate to following entry in registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} and delete it. This action should remove recycle bin from your desktop.

(note:tried  in winxp not sure about this tweak will work in win7 or win8)

CHANGE DEFAULT SHUTDOWN TIME

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Look for "WaitToKillServiceTimeout", by default, it is set to 12000 milliseconds(I think)
Change this value to anywhere from 2000-5000, that is 2-5 seconds.

I set to 2000 and had no problems(your experience may vary)

and simply you can download the registry file too it will change the default timings to 2000 and you can have default settings too by downloading the second registry file..
