Title: search widget theme mod, help?
Post by: scutterflux on February 25, 2014, 06:47:07 am
I am looking for help.

I would like to have the Carpenter's Son searchwidget mod.  The instructions are "add to theme", it is a folder named elements with 4 .nvg files.

I've placed the 4 .nvg files in:
c:/private/200159c0/themes
e:/private/200159c0/themes
c:/private/200159c0/themes/elements
e:/private/200159c0/themes/elements

Rebooted ... no luck!

What am I doing wong?

Any help would be appreciated.

You're a bit off-track mate. You don't have a device or firmware listed, so:
Belle Refresh go here (http://sdf.allstarsoftware.co.uk/symbian3-modding/mod-chris's-patch-for-belle-refresh(load-mif-files-that-stored-on-z-from-drive-e/)
Or
Belle FP2 go here (http://sdf.allstarsoftware.co.uk/symbian3-modding/read-mif-files-from-z-to-e-for-fp2/)

Yup, that's been done... I think... I'm sure, I used Joshlog, rompatcher and xplore to do this, and I have no trouble with .mif patches/skins for other widgets, for example the steel mail widget is a .mif and works great.

This is different, at least it seems like it to me.  These are .nvg files not .mif and they are to be "add to theme"

Oh, ok i get your issue now.
You need to edit the theme in SISContents.
When i can get to the PC i will get some screenshots for you for how to mod a theme.
In the meantime, download SISContents by Aquarius (attached here (http://sdf.allstarsoftware.co.uk/symbian3-modding/search-widget-theme-mod-help/?action=dlattach;attach=15341)).

Edit: Upload

ok, I'm using delight cfw and searchwidget.mif is under z/data/delight. so I'll put that in e/resources/apps and try again, I think this might be the issue, that it was never copied from z/resources/apps because it was never there to begin with.

I'll report back.

This is why you should list your device and firmware;
Delight loads .mifs from C:\ and does not require joshlog/nivas patch.

Cool man, I didn't see your reply so quick, ya I have siscontent ready to go, had a look earlier but have no clue where to put/replace files...  If you could guide me I'd really appreciate that.

BTW my other idea did not work out.

I also thought I'd mention there is configuration file that would also go under 200159c0/themes/.... that I've also been replacing as I attempt to make widget skin mod.

If it's as simple as adding to the .mif file then that will be easy, if I need to add to the .skn file then that's where I need help.

Well I need help, I have tried simply adding to the .mif theme file using siscontent and then installed theme... no change.

i haven't been on the PC yet, but it might be best if you post the files you mean to add and tell me exactly where you got it from/link the tutorial so i know exactly what you are trying to accomplish.

But until you give me some more information, this is all i can suggest.

The only instructions are as follows:

".......

RSS Feed - mif, sis, config
Search (add to theme)
Social - mif, config
Toggles (Auto-Rotation Lock (install the widget first) - mif; Bluetooth - mif, sis; Caller ID (install the widget first) - mif; Cellular - mif, sis; FM Transmitter - mif, config; Network - mif, sis; NFC - mif; Offline

....."

It won't let me attach files induvidually, so I'll attach the complete zip file.

There is a configuration folder that follows this:

_config\Search\private\200159c0\themes\536999050\270513751\536929624\3.0\sources\00\searchwidget.o0000
_config\Search\private\200159c0\themes\536999050\270513751\536929624\3.0\sources\01\searchwidget.o0000
_config\Search\private\200159c0\themes\536999050\270513751\536929624\3.0\sources\16\searchwidget.o0000

Well you sure picked a doosie :P. There are multiple versions of each skin, so you have to pick the ones you want, rename them to the appropriate filename (the .mif they will replace) and put them all in !:\resource\apps\, where ! is your mod's drive heading.
Delight loads from C:\, but if you patched the joshlog/nivas mod then i guess that won't be the drive to use anymore.

Ya, lol I've only found people asking the same question I'm asking but no answers or solution.

If the skin or .nvg files could be put into an .sis search widget file would that be easier?

Not even remotely.
You have to pick the skins you want and rename them.
Create two folders on your PC: resource and apps.
Now copy all the .mifs you want to use into apps and rename them accordingly, then drag apps into resource, then drag it to your phone's mass memory (?) while the phone is off.

Ah ha! and Eureka!  :D

Like this:

Open theme in siscontent, expand .skn and under resources put files and mark:

major ID 101F86e3
minor ID 0x29A0

major ID 101F86e3
minor ID 0x29A1

major ID 101F86e3
minor ID 0x29A2

major ID 101F86e3
minor ID 0x29A3

Thanks for your help Mathew, you really helped me with what area to focus on, otherwise I'd still be playing with c: and e: resources apps etc...
