Ok, let's make a deal... You find me the full specs for the Nokia's firmware file format and I'll port you anything you like! :D

heh ! :-) +1

Btw it would be amazing if symbian is revived from a group like jolla (yes im day dreaming )

but atleast last thing nokia could do is give full access on system + fws + apis in-short make it open source before it vanishes away ...

We never know mate, it might just happen, a 15 year old OS i'm sure Nokia employees could do another jolla.

Great to see likes of Il.Socio ,ichris701. taking interest in this post.First kudos to author of this post .Second..as Il.socio said, he can do something with regard to porting provided some information is made available by nokia.

I strongly believe the best possible way to obtain the information required is via a petition ..Petitions are the best way to put your point ahead to Nokia..petitions have been successful ..one such example is of broadcom releasing drivers required for galaxy y cynanogenmod porting...This petition took about 15000 signs + appeal to broadcom via twitter and social media.

Taking cue from above example and the kind of support Symbian community still has..Il.socio can start an appropriate petition at http://change.org and the rest of Symbian community do its work and force Nokia to release all the required infos pertaining to Symbian..

Guys..this is our best bet for now..Think about it for once..I think it is worth a try atleast

Regards,
Shivam

Actually, Symbian does support multicore (see SMP - Symmetric MultiProcessor) and the whole ui does supports ANY resolution too, because all the standard controls are based on vector graphic (svg), so it can immediately scale to any kind of resolution without any problem... that's one of major pros of Symbian.
http://library.developer.nokia.com/index.jsp?topic=/GUID-E35887BB-7E58-438C-AA27-97B2CDE7E069/GUID-6F1ED7D0-5F41-4587-89AA-8DDE7AEC916F.html

The main problem of Symbian is that maintain the kernel and develop new os features takes too much time (meaning money), compared to others os like IOS and Android.
For this very same reason, the whole Avkon UI was replaced with the new Qt... but despite this change, Nokia noticed that it was not enough to keep the os updated and let it grow as fast as the competitors.

My bad then, my researches were maybe older then this:). So, maybe we will see a new very improved symbian in the future. Just asking, if this is true, why didn't Nokia do anything for that beautiful 808 to go wild? To be a dual-core with 125 mb grafc and 1 gb ram. Would have been the best device four years from now on...

I am really against this opinion, android did not kill nothing. Nokia abandoned Symbian a long time ago. They could do a 808 dual-core and 1 gb ram, they did not do it... cause of the store, some say... wp8 store is kind of empty, but getting life day by day....SO, nokia is to blame for our Symbian.

I really doubt that there are any chances to get those specs from Nokia through a petition...
There are better chances to get them from someone involved in the development of nokia fw, or even better, involved in the development of flashing sw (like phoenix, jaf)

Is it impossibile to have the ACL project on symbian, right? It cold definetly solve the lack of applications problem without porting the whole os..

There isn't a lack of applications though, we have a good 100k on store alone.

About the same possibility as Android being ported to Symbian devices.
