Redesign Symbian
« on: June 03, 2012, 03:24:02 pm »
When I got belle update, i was really looking forward to Carla.
I even sarted imagining how Carla would look like. Now that Carla is scrapped. I have started to compile my ideas and I was thinking if it was possible to develop a new OS, unlike custom OS, this version will have totally changed UI and some new features which I think Symbian must have. Also, some new features contributed by this community.
but the problem is, I'm new to Symbian coding stuff.
I need someone to work with. Some expert, so that i can take this idea forward. and we together at this forum will create next Symbian.

about me: I'm an Undergrad student of Electronics and Communication Engineering at a premier technical institution in India.

lol great idea indeed ! But did you know that symbian is not open source :P anyway if you are willing to go forward - you'll get most parts of s^3 source scattered over the web (not belle though) and it is not as easy as you think - there will be many hurdles like you'll have to make custom bootloader to bypass existing one & so on (which nobody has done till date !) & and without a good tem (of programmers) it'll be even impossible to interpret the code properly . I have some c++ coding experience if you are serious though i am in ! Not that we can make anything (we wont !) but it'll fun and good learning experience !

No need to edit bootloader

trick s simple here (simple if bootloader acces is gained)

just replacing bootloader ll do the trick

but if it fails ..you'll ve a phone dead which can't be revived at all !!

but fp1 was just a slight improvement. Not exactly a full firmware, unlike anna.
And what about all those leaked carla pics.
If fp1 is carla, then as announced, donna is just a multicore version. So that means, symbian ends here!?? :( :'(

u made me realize how difficult task lies ahead.
Can't we just change the looks.
For eg, menu, pop ups, etc...??

honestly i don't know mate ! - but one thing is for sure - if you are to modify atleast a part or the code you'll need a dedicated (experienced ) team working on it :( . And before think of redesigning the UI you have to first think of what to do with modifed source - how you will recompile get it to run on actual device and lots of stuff like that ! and being a noob i dont have answers to such questions ! EDIT : also one more thing like chris said above be ready to brick your phone if you are into this (not discouraging though) !

hi frenz....why don't you jst go through this http://library.developer.nokia.com/
Hope you'll get something....also jst try searching for static system startup it tells something about the system startup (i guess it means booting) hope we can do something about the bootloader... if we jst try we can unlock the bootloader and try something new with our nokia devices:) thanks:)

Get it from here: http://n8delight.blogspot.de/2014/05/for-developers-re-up-of-symbian.html

that's a bit faster than a torrent ;)

,,no even jaf box ll be useless ! I ve heard fonix bypassed the uboot check process but idk more on that !

did he ever really proof it?
I also heard they modded a S^3 ROM, but don't know if it's true.

[...] donna is just a multicore version.

Symbian supports SMP since S^3.

So that means, symbian ends here!?? :( :'(

I think so, maybe we will get a few small mods in the next years, but there aren't many serious modders left.
