Title: E6 is giving me a headache
Post by: matthew on September 06, 2013, 02:46:16 am
It seems that cooking for S^3 is a bit more complex than 9.3 and 9.4
i am inches away from flashing Anna... So tired of bricking =oP

i like Refresh better than Belle, but i am trying to make my CFW more akin to S60/S^3/Anna because i really miss the PDA functionality that i appreciated so much in SymbianOS.
The problems i am having are mainly in resizing widgets and the removal of preinstalled software without damaging components of the Qt framework.
This is my first attempt at CFW for Belle and i am finding it to be much more complicated than it is with Symbian OS 9.3/9.4.
i would like to keep Belle Refresh for its many advantages and to be able to make use of all of you skilled modder's contributions, but if i can not make it the way i want it, i might just settle for Anna as consolation.

Ok, i had to give up on resizing the widgets on z:\ for now and move on.
i have a working beta now, only the Phonebook is not working. i triple-verified all apps are in the CORE and ROFS2 but it is not working. I made CenRep mods, but none that reference PIM uids.
Has anybody experienced this problem before?

Ok, i do not know if it was just a coincidence, but after applying Chris' patch, the Phonebook is working. Ah, progress  :-*

So it is just the E6 with the difficult firmware to edit.
1511 went along with everything like a bowling ball on ice, but the 0058 software is just fighting tooth and nail!

The E6 is a pain in the arse though, especially when trying to develop for it ::)

And the phonebook is not completely fixed, either. Usable as a background app, but not able to view/edit contact information. It kicks me out of the program if i open a contact :-[

did you modify the cenrep .txt of application caching?
I mean to close system apps (like calendar, clock, logs) instead of moving them to background.

If you edited this .txt the wrong way, this can cause your problem

Thank you for responding - i appreciate your input  :)
The CenRep mods that effect system caching i have made are in 10283344 (where i set system cache to unlimited), 101f8557 (Web cache increased from 1MB to 10MB) and 102072c6 (FOTA cache set to 1kB). i made the same mods to the E72 and N8's CenRep as i have to the E6 and have had absolutely no issues with either one.
This problem i am having with the phonebook is the only bug i have experienced yet, and it is only present with the E6. i modified the CenRep in all three sets of firmware for the three devices i have almost identically (obviously kinetic scrolling does not exist on the E72).
i flashed the OFW as a test and the problem is non-existent, so i know the firmware files are ok, but i went ahead and deleted my edited batch and going to start over as perhaps i accidentally deleted a file of which i am unaware.

Editing the E6's firmware is no joke.
i do not understand why it is so resistant to mods.
You can only use key lighting ONCE in the context framework. If you use a light twice, it will not work at all.
Widgets refuse being resized like the normal set on nHD devices.
CenRep mods have had effects on completely unrelated aspects of the phone.

All that has kept me from flashing Anna is sheer defiance... i can not accept being beaten by a phone  :D

N8 keeps Belle Refresh, as i find the OS suits the touch UI beautifully. Not only this, i have no fight getting it to do what i ask it to.
However, Belle on the E6 was just... unpleasant.
i am sure i will miss a few things and i have to download all new maps but in the long run, i think it will be a square trade.

This trouble appears to have been an issue with corrupted .vcf files, not the firmware edit =o/
i'm glad it happened, though. Anna is the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world :D

I did like Anna, more stable than Belle.

Wish we had a proper way to downgrade :/

The downgrade is a tad unstable. It seems to be random how well it will go, from what i read. The N8 method is better, though, innit?
i actually owe you a thank you for this update, because you basically backed my suspicion about it in the thread about the ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? contacts, mate. ;)
This has yet to become an exact science for me :) Loads of trial and error lessons :D
