How to play YouTube in Real Player?
« on: March 13, 2014, 12:38:27 am »
Hi.

At first, I want to apologize - english is not my native language... :-[

I have Nokia C6 with S60v5 and i like it more than my actual Nokia 500 with Belle Refresh (full QWERTY keyboard from C6 is superb). But there is one thing that pushed me after all to buyed Nokia 500 few days ago - more RAM but especially playing YouTube.

Official YouTube app not working anymore and there is many posts on internet about this but without any solutions - every time when official YouTube app from Google is starting, there is first screen with EULA, but it ends at:  "Error, Could not connect, Problem with network connection". Problem exist from version 2.4.4 to 2.4.17 (i cannot find previous version than 2.4.4). I think Google change something or simply shut down Symbian app. Wi-Fi/GPRS connection is active and working of course.

Second option failed too - native Real Player. Every time when i want to play YouTube movie's, everything stuck forever on "Loading: 0%". Many post's was wrote about this but again i don't have proxy enabled and Real Player connection is set to my current Wi-Fi network.

So - there is some way to play YouTube on S60v5 today? On Belle everything work's but i like more Nokia C6 with S60v5.

I will be grateful for any help.

Your English is fine.
You can try this: it's a modified version of Opera Mobile with the default user agent changed to iPhone. It works for me on Anna... Worth a try, right?
The mod is by pithanks and the installer was made by vali20vali20vali20

Hello again  :)

Sorry for long no reply but i've had and still have problem with sis file from link above. When i've tried to install sis file, every time installation stopped on error like: "unable to install protected application from untrusted supplier". I've found some website's that can generate personal certificate (like http://shoujizu.net where my certificate is produced from 2 days and still nothing...) but it seems, that they are zombie-sites today. I can't install this sis on Symbian Belle too. Nokia C6 is not hacked (i can't find any good reason to do that).

At this moment it seems, that i can use S60v5 to everything but not to watching YouTube (128MB RAM in Nokia C6 is not much today and it's too small for websites full of JavaScript or big www, but Opera Mini 8 do the trick). It's not a big problem after all, but it's something that S60v5 can't do today  :(

Nokia C6 is not hacked (i can't find any good reason to do that).
Here is my question:
Do you have access to all files/folders (read/write) on your PC? Did you enable all hidden files/folders in folder options? Why wouldn't you want that on your phone, too?
That's what hacking accomplishes.

I've just hacked my phone using this tutorial: http://trojancrew.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-hack-nokia-52335800c652305530.html

And after this, untrusted sis was installed without any warnings. Even mobile YouTube page is looking correctly in this hacked Opera (on default webrowser or Opera Mini/Mobile, i don't know why, but older version of YouTube is displayed). But my problem is still not solved - YouTube redirecting stream to Real Player and RP can't open file, wrong file format. I think that Real Player on S60v5 is too much outdated to play newest flash files from YouTube. So Your method was very helpful and Thank You for that but it seems, that technology behind S60v5 are too old for these days. Few months ago I've used official YouTube app from Google without any problems, but in the meantime they must changed something (app stopped working on Belle too). Who knows how long Belle web-browsers will be compatible with Google stupid changes (i think that Nokia/Microsoft will not support Symbian to 2016 - it was word's puts to the wind)  :(

I will try to find some YouTube downloader but maybe better idea will be to stop fighting - it's almost like kicking with horse few years after S60v5 release. Shame, because even outdated and not supported version of Android (like Gingerbread) have still better Google, developer's and community support than Symbian (theoretically with support to 2016 but practically almost dead with frozen Ovi Store).
