Title: Flashing with an Apple Macintosh?
Post by: Bobo on May 23, 2014, 02:19:26 am
Hi folks!

I have a Nokia C5-03 and a 700. Both are chronically short on memory in C:/. But in the C5-03 this problem is terrible. I would love to flash the phone, but I "only" have a Macintosh. Does anyone here know how to do this. I tried it with the program Nokia Software Updater by putting other firmware into the folder that the program downloads official Nokia firmware to. But I would have to change the program itself somehow to achieve that. The way it goes is, that the program just downloads the files over and over again, always overwriting the modded firmware. I read somewhere, one can do it somehow with the program "terminal". But the versions they provided were quite old and didn't cover newer phones.

Thanks for any clues!

You could try use Virtual box and Phoenix flasher.

Thanks for your answer Allstar12345!

But alas, I am too inexperienced to use Virtual Box from the Terminal. If someone showed me how to do it, maybe I'd be able to on my own as well... I'm using "wine", which is also a kind of Windows-emulator. "Phoenix" fails to work on there. But I get "J.A.F" to run. It just cannot connect to my phone. And that is due to the fact that the USB-drivers in "wine" aren't exactly compatible with Mac OS, I think. Anyway, it was worth a try!

All the best!

You need to use VB because Phoenix requires MS .NET framework and emulators can't create that environment.
Search for tutorials for terminal on YouTube; that's how i learned.

Hey thanks Allstar12345 and matthew!

Thanks for your suggestions!

I'll follow the instructions as to how to use "Virtual Box" on youtube.

And at this moment my hard drive is so full. I couldn't afford to create any sizable partition for windows on it. But I can see your point.

It's recommended to use actual Windows environment to flash a phone.
Meaning: Flash using Windows and Phoenix.
