Nokia e7 not charging

I am unable to charge my nokia e7...when i insert the charger it says "SYSTEM ERROR" and switches off. If anyone has received this problem using the nokia e7, please give me a solution to sorting out.

Custom firmware or original?
Did it work before?
Have you done anything major to the phone since the last time it worked?
Is your MicroUSB port physically broken? i have read about this piece breaking as being a common problem on that model.

I did not make any changes to the phone, the phone was working fine.When i plug in the usb to charge it shows that the phone is charging but no power is going to the battery.

i am confused.
You said the phone said "System Error" and then shut off, but now you say it shows as charging but power is not going to the battery. Please explain what you mean...
1. Is the charger the original Nokia one that came with the phone?
2. How old is the phone and how do you usually charge it? What i mean is do you charge every day or do you wait for the battery to die first?
3. Have you tried charging with the phone off?
4. Have you tried using a different charger or using a computer USB port to charge?
Li-Ion batteries should be charged as frequently as possible. Only once in a long while should you let a Li battery drain all the way, and only if the charge life is becoming irregular.

I have a problem charging my nokia e7 phone..when i plug in the charger it says "System Error"... So i tried the usb cable nd it charged up 1 percent of the battery nd stopped charging and gave another error message that says "Unable to Recognise USB Cable".I managed to keep the phone on for 2 minutes before it died. Im left with three problems namely : it could be the software, charging block or battery...Please if anyone that knows what is wrong with my phone please respond on ways to fix these issues that works.

Reply to your message :
1. Yes the charger is the origainal.
2. My phone is two years old.
3. Yes i have tried with the charger and usb cable (Refer to statement above).
4. The fone has not been used in three months until today it came on for 2 minutes and died. I used the usb cable to try to charge it. If i leave the usb charger on for the entire day it will only charge up one percent nothing more than that.

How does it react when you try charge it when the phone is off ?
Still get a message or does it just die?

I am currently using the usb cable the light blinks five times the start up screen comes on and then switches off..I have to play around with the cable till the charging light blinks..I understand that the fone is dead nd it will need time but this is getting rather frustrating that it refuses to charge up fully.
I have the phone pluuged via usb cable but no response from the phone.

I will be removing my battery later so i can charge it up using a universal charger to see whether my battery needs to be changed, i will also be cleaning the charging point with methylated spirit...After i carry out these tests I will get back to you.

I don't think that's the battery somehow, it might be the USB port or the internal charging unit.

i think it is the battery. At two years old, it could be the issue. i have had dying batteries make phones do weird things.
It is also the cheapest fix, so why not try it first?

I bought a universal charger and a brand new nokia charger...i tried the new charger  but it says "Connect usb cable" when the phone powers on it shows that the phone is reading the charger as a usb charger and the usb icon blinks at the top of the screen.Im currently charging the battery using the universal charger but when i plugged the battery to the universal cahrger it showed that the battery has life in it..I will wait for two hours till the battery is charged up and will try again.
