What does everyone think about making Symbian open source? The petition on this site made me interested: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/nokia-corporation-microsoft-corporation-release-symbian-source-code-make-it-open-source-release-latest-update-builds-save-the-environment
Can someone give pros and cons for this?

If the source code is released, developers will be able to build upon Symbian in the same way other open-source OS (such as Linux [eg - Android]) are built.
The pros to this are rather self evident; if the source code is locked up, the SymbianOS dies. If it is released, the public can improve and enhance it.

Then I guess we should all sign this petition. Hopefully they reach the target number of signatures. A legend shouldn't die so easily :)

Legends never die, but the rest of us need all the help we can get.
Symbian should be released into the wild and given a fighting chance :)

The could be the only hope for symbian or we can hope other phone manufacture pick up symbian at least as secondary OS where it is left.
-
Hopefully all these efforts to make symbian an open OS gets fulfilled atlast...:)
