That really isn't enough of the error message and you could explain a little more what exactly you did, what phone...
Ignore the dialogue. Start the flash without your phone connected. When the dialogue with instructions opens, insert your USB to the PC and phone, then click OK and do nothing more.

i use a nokia 2730 classic,i downloaded firmware fro navifirm den i copied extracted files to phoenix/products/rm-578,i connected phone wid usb but phone is switched off ,i started phoenix as administrator i made connection type as no connection den i followed all instructions given wen i clicked on refurbish i got dese instructions: Flashing started

Backup not required
KeepProductInFlashModeAfterFlash is supported only for FPS-X devices. Ignoring the flag
Flashing phone
Initializing
Scanning image files...
Waiting for USB device...
--- Press phone's power button! ---
i pressed phones power button but nothing happened n after a whili got dis pop up window wid header flashing faiiled:
The flashing failed. Do you like to retry the flashing?

HRESULT 0x8401f141 (-2080247487)

Flash: Boot rom was not detected after phone boot up. Unable to start flashing. 
wat shud i do?

But i have 0 experience flashing S40, so there is little more i can offer

whwn exactly shud i connect my phone ??when which instructions come i have to connect d phone?btw problem is my phone doesnt turn on it gets stck in dat startup screen jus whhite screen comes..dis is d reason im flashing..so wen it says press power button while flashing it doesn detect d power button wen i press cos my phone doesn turn on..

i said do not switch on the phone; just connect it to the PC with the USB and click Ok when the dialogue box that gives instructions appears.
But, as i mentioned, this is an S60 procedure so i do not know if it will work for S40 in the same way.

not working.. and i dindnt get u were to press ok..cos i don get any such option n i connected d device after instructions started coming..

The procedure:
1. File > Open Product > RM-578
2. Flashing > Firmware Update
3. ... > Your Product Code
4. X Dead phone USB flashing
5. Refurbish
6. Dialogue box opens > Connect the (turned off) phone to PC
7. OK


That's it. Do no more and no less.

Is it? You stated twice that you turn on the phone at the point in the flash where the dialog box opens and i have told you not to turn it on.

first of all i don get the same windows which u get abt dat disconnect d cable n all dat instructions were u press ok i dont get it..n i din turn it on i cant turn i on phones dead
